Both the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers tip off their 2026-27 NBA season with a matchup of two California teams at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 21st at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Each team has adjusted expectations coming into this year, as they’re no longer viewed as viable championship contenders. The Warriors will try to tread water until Jimmy Butler can return from a torn ACL, while the Lakers are transitioning to life without LeBron James.
With that in mind, it should be interesting to see how each team looks in the season opener, so let’s dive into the best prediction markets to find the top prices for Warriors vs. Lakers.
The Lakers are priced at 67 cents to win this game. The point spread is Lakers -6.5, priced at 50 cents. This isn’t surprising because the Lakers are at home, still led by superstar Luka Doncic, giving them the edge on paper.
The Over/Under is currently listed at 233.5 points, with the Over favored at 51 cents. It’s a projected high-scoring matchup, which makes sense considering the Warriors ranked 2nd in three-pointers made last year, while the Lakers were 1st in field-goal percentage.
I’m riding with the Warriors +6.5 in this one. This feels like too many points for the Lakers to be favored by, especially as they adjust to life without LeBron. Yes, they still have Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and Walker Kessler, but this is an inflated number.
You can’t count out the Warriors as long as Steph Curry is healthy, as he is right now. We also have to mention that Golden State has a new x-factor: rookie forward Yaxel Lendeborg. The 11th-overall pick in this year’s draft has made a major impact throughout the offseason. Not only did he win Summer League MVP, but he’s been effective in preseason as well.
Lendeborg gives the Warriors another wing who can do it all: score, defend, and act as a playmaker. This can ease the load off Curry, potentially making the Warriors a bit better than expected. With that in mind, I’ll ride with the Warriors to keep it close vs. the Lakers in this spot.
When looking at market movement at prediction markets apps, we see that the Lakers were once 71% favorites, but that’s dropped to 67%. This makes sense because the Lakers are similarly a team in transition, so they shouldn’t be laying this many points right now. This has the look of a close game between two of the most popular franchises in the NBA. To that end, Warriors +6.5 feels like the prudent trade.
