The 2026 NFL preseason officially kicks off tomorrow night in Canton, Ohio, as the Carolina Panthers take on the Arizona Cardinals. New kickoff and onside kick rules will have their live debut tomorrow, with teams having the option to declare an onside kick at any point in the game, as long as they are trailing.
Due to the preseason format, the Panthers and Cardinals will be the only two NFL teams to play four games before the regular season begins. All other teams will play a total of three preseason games. There will be no overtime periods allowed (due to injury concerns) until the 2026-27 NFL regular season begins next month.
The Carolina Panthers have a very slight edge in prediction markets like Kalshi going into the first NFL preseason game, mostly because they’re starting a veteran quarterback (Kenny Pickett) versus Carson Beck, who is set to make his NFL debut for Arizona.
With that said, “winning” will not be the main priority for either team unless there’s a tie-breaking scenario at the end of the 4th Quarter that forces a team to attempt a 2-point conversion. This will be the first of four preseason games for each team, which will bring 90-man rosters to the sidelines tomorrow night. Avoiding serious injuries will override all else as bubble players get evaluated in an exhibition setting.
We’re going with the Carolina Panthers to come out on top in Canton once the 4th Quarter has ended, although a tie is certainly possible. We’re also buying contracts on the “over” 35.5 total points.
Third-round rookie Carson Beck will be making his NFL debut as he suits up for the Arizona Cardinals tomorrow. Beck played his last year of eligibility as a member of the Miami Hurricanes but is best known for his starting role with the Georgia Bulldogs.
There will be a pregame celebration to honor the NFL Class of 2026 Hall of Fame inductees. Fans will see Drew Brees, Adam Vinatieri, Roger Craig, Luke Kuechly, and hometown favorite Larry Fitzgerald on the field before the Panthers and Cardinals begin competing against each other.
The easiest option to watch the game will be NBC for cable TV subscribers. Live streamers can catch the entire game on Peacock or YouTube TV, provided they’re located within the United States.
Many trading sharps are going to choose to sit the moneyline out for the very first preseason game. New rules (like the added onside kick options) will make their first appearance and there’s very little predictive edge on the moneyline when the vast majority of players on the field aren’t known commodities.
The bubble players will be playing as if their jobs are on the line, though. If one of the teams looks “inspired” early in the first quarter, you can expect the in-game markets to move in that team’s favor. Eventually, all NFL teams will have to make the cut from 90 players to 53. This means that roughly 40% of all players who are suited up will be cut by August 30th.
