Prediction market sports traders are going back and forth over who the Cleveland Browns will start at quarterback in the Week 1 2026-27 NFL regular season opener against Jacksonville at EverBank Stadium.
The Browns will open their season with two straight road games and will be hoping to pick up a pair of wins against the Jaguars and Buccaneers before heading home to Huntington Bank Field to take on the Carolina Panthers. By then, the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback situation may be clearer to fans and forecasters alike, but for now, Kalshi traders’ focus is placed squarely on who will be the Browns’ Week 1 starter in Jacksonville.
This is a race between two possible contenders: Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson. The Browns enter the 2026-27 NFL regular season with a new head coach, so it will be up to Todd Monken to decide which quarterback will get the starting nod on September 13th.
Despite his current status as an “underdog” on prediction markets, we’re pretty much all-in on Shedeur Sanders taking the first offensive snap for the Cleveland Browns once the Week 1 action gets underway in Jacksonville. Watson’s susceptibility to injury is already well established, which means that the former Clemson Tigers star could play “rollout” options more conservatively as he continues to recover from multiple surgeries in 2024-2025.
Cleveland fans are impatient; they want a concrete starting quarterback as soon as possible. Sanders may still be “green” in terms of NFL experience, but he’s massively effective out of the pocket and presents opposing defenses with a unique challenge compared to Watson. Look for Shedeur Sanders to start Week 1 for the Cleveland Browns when they travel to Jacksonville on September 13th.
There’s another, equally obvious, reason we’re picking Shedeur Sanders to start for Cleveland in their regular season opener against Jacksonville: the media. If you don’t think NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders will be able to influence head coach Todd Monken’s decision, then you’re kidding yourself, in our opinion.
Deion is going to do everything in his power to convince Monken to place his son at No. 1 on the QB depth chart. The media will (mostly) follow Deion’s narratives, too. Some form of “It’s time to hand over the reins to the youngster and give him a chance to lead” will play repeatedly throughout August and early September. Deshaun Watson turns 31 one day after Cleveland’s Week 1 matchup against the Jaguars. Shedeur Sanders is only 24 years old… enough said.
This section is more about future market movement for the Week 1 Cleveland Browns starting quarterback. We’re predicting that Shedeur’s stock will rise as the media warms up to selecting him as the best option.
Choose Sanders at 42¢ per contract at “yes” to start for the Browns on September 13th. If you wait until mid-August, the price will probably be above 50 cents.
