A significant portion of the actual starting roster for both teams may depend on a joint practice that the two teams are holding today in Foxborough. NFL prediction markets are giving a slight edge to the Patriots to win on Thursday, but the market could shift if it’s announced that QB Drake Maye won’t see any action during the team’s first preseason game.
Despite the New England Patriots’ status as the reigning AFC Conference champions who are playing at home, we’re hesitant to give such a relatively high contract price any preference. At 54¢ to win, New England’s “yes” contracts are slightly overpriced as far as we see it.
Thursday’s preseason game will be focused on the evaluation of “bubble” players as each team must reduce roster sizes from 90 to 53 by the end of the month. If Drake Maye does play, don’t look for him to stay in the game for more than a couple of drives.
If you’re looking to pick up value as a professional trader, we recommend buying the “yes” options for total points scored being over 40.5. The lack of star players on the field won’t necessarily translate into lower scoring, as we witnessed during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game between the Panthers and Cardinals last week.
Joint practices ahead of preseason matchups, such as the scrimmage environment that the Colts and Patriots will participate in today, have become commonplace in the NFL. As fans might expect, the quarterbacks for each team will be wearing the “no contact” jerseys throughout today’s joint practice in Foxborough, but will still get to take some reps.
These events allow hometown fans to see their favorite players (and potentially get autographs from them) while enabling coaches to script certain plays or scenarios without the pressure of an actual game clock. Thursday’s preseason game could be a great opportunity for bargain shoppers to secure club seating at Gillette Stadium to watch the Colts and Patriots play in their official uniforms. Ticket prices Thursday night range from just above $20 to over $150 for preferred seating, with all tickets available via Ticketmaster.
We suggest securing “yes” contracts on the point totals markets on Kalshi before they rise in price. While these markets don’t typically attract a lot of trading volume during the preseason, they can provide plenty of value for traders who are looking for a solid purchase with a binary result for each quarter or the entire game.
As far as the game “winner” market is concerned, we’d pick up contracts on the Patriots that are priced at 52 cents per contract or less. Otherwise, it may be a good idea to go with the Indianapolis Colts at 46¢ per contract to win Thursday’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.
