Tomorrow night, the Dallas Cowboys will take on the Arizona Cardinals in a preseason game at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Since the Kalshi NFL prediction market opened on August 16th, the two teams have attracted an equal amount of trading volume from sports forecasters.
As the market moves toward $100,000 in total volume, it’s a good idea to review which key players will be active and participating in on-field competition tomorrow night in Arizona. Most of the top offensive talent for both teams will be spending the bulk of their time on the sidelines. The looming roster-reduction deadline (August 30th) will force coaches from both teams to evaluate bubble players throughout the contest.
Sports traders are evenly divided over which team will win in Glendale tomorrow. The Cardinals have named backup Gardner Minshew II as the starter. Jacoby Brissett, Marvin Harrison, Jr., Trey McBride, and Budda Baker will all sit for the entirety of the game.
The Cowboys aren’t taking any unnecessary preseason risks, either. Dak Prescott is confirmed to be OUT for tomorrow’s contest. The same can be said for wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
We feel that Kalshi account holders have this market pegged exactly where it should be, as a virtual toss-up. If forced to make a choice, we’d rather pick up the “yes” contracts for the Arizona Cardinals at 49¢ per contract. The Cardinals will be playing at their home stadium (although many of the fans will be rooting for Dallas to win).
Neither team is looking to capture national headlines this week, because doing so would likely mean there has been a significant injury to a key player. Star players on both the offensive and defensive sie of the ball rarely see a lot of playing time during the NFL preseason.
However, kickers are a different story. Pro Bowl kicker Brandon Aubrey is expected to play his normal number of special teams snaps tomorrow. We wouldn’t be surprised in the least if Aubrey is tasked with converting a field goal of more than 60 yards by the time the fourth quarter ends.
This market made its most significant move on August 16th, just hours after opening on Kalshi. Traders who were fortunate enough to secure contracts on Arizona to win at under 30 cents can rest assured they got a great deal, regardless of which team wins tomorrow.
NFL teams aren’t known for prioritizing “winning” during the preseason. All teams must enter the regular season with a 53-man roster, which means that many players who see action tomorrow night will be cut by August 30th. Since actual jobs are on the line during the preseason, coaching staffs typically focus much of their attention on individual performances put forth by traditional non-starters.
