The Houston Texans have a clear goal in mind for the 2026-27 NFL regular season and beyond: win the AFC South Division and advance to the AFC Championship Game in the playoffs. NFL prediction markets are showing that traders believe the Texans will likely achieve their first goal at the very least.
The Texans, led by head coach DeMeco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud, failed to achieve either last year. They entered the postseason as a Wild Card and were defeated in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs for a third consecutive year.
Houston has all the key components in place to win the AFC South Division before Week 18 of the regular season arrives. Quarterback C.J. Stroud is returning for his fourth attempt at an AFC Championship Game appearance, and has already won a playoff game in each of his first three seasons. Unfortunately for the Texans, they’ve lost in the Divisional Round of the playoffs in each of the past three years.
The acquisition of running back David Montgomery will help take some of the offensive load off Stroud and save him from unnecessary scrambling scenarios. Wide receiver Nico Collins is also returning as the Texans’ top downfield option, and defensive end Will Anderson Jr. is healthy and ready to anchor Houston’s defense.
Special teams are also solid for the Texans. They have Ka’imi Fairbairn at kicker, who is arguably the most dangerous special teams player in the league behind the Cowboys’ Brandon Aubrey. Houston may seem to be overpriced to win the AFC South title at 48 cents per contract, but we agree with Kalshi traders and are picking up those contracts.
The AFC South has the best Week 1 schedule compared to the other seven divisions. All four teams (the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans) open their 2026-27 regular season with afternoon home games that are set to kick off at the exact same time.
The Texans will host the Buffalo Bills. The Titans play at home against the New York Jets. The Colts will be in Indianapolis to welcome the Baltimore Ravens, and the Jaguars will play in Jacksonville against Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns.
If any team is to challenge the Texans for AFC South dominance this year, it will likely be the Jaguars. However, that is heavily dependent on the individual performance of quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who has been plagued by inconsistency so far in his still-young NFL career.
There’s still plenty of room left in the AFC South Division “winner” market on Kalshi for contract prices of individual teams to rise or fall. In terms of market movement, the Houston Texans are susceptible to a significant price drop if they’re unable to take care of business at home against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on September 13th.
The actual “frontrunner” could potentially change if Buffalo beats Houston in Week 1 and the Jaguars blow out the Browns at the same time. The Texans will be under the gun in Week 2 as they host Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals (the Jaguars travel to Denver to take on the Broncos on September 20th).
