Hurricanes vs Canadiens Game 3 of Easten Conference Final

The Carolina Hurricanes extended their NHL Eastern Conference Finals series lead to 3-1 Wednesday night. The series now returns to Lenovo Center in Raleigh where the Hurricanes have an opportunity to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Unlike Games 2 and 3 of the ECF, Game 4 wasn’t really close. The Hurricanes jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead against the Canadiens, who had no answer defensively. The 4-0 rout, on the Canadiens’ home ice, left the crowd stunned – with nothing to cheer for.

Montreal Canadiens v Carolina Hurricanes Game 5 Picks

With the Hurricanes claiming an overwhelming Shots on Goal advantage in Game 4, our inclination is to go for the 69 cents contract on Polymarket for Carolina to close out the series Friday night. There’s simply too much momentum with the Hurricanes returning to Raleigh and too many percentages that work in Carolina’s favor when they possess a 3-to-1 SOG margin.

By the way, did you see all the Polymarket advertisement signs posted around the rink in Montreal? They were impossible to miss – pretty much every camera angle had at least one sign visible. If you’re rooting for a Canadiens upset victory this Friday, then Montreal is affordable at 32 cents per contract… but that’s only if you’re confident in your forecast.

Regardless, there will be plenty of prediction market trading volume around Game 5 of the NHL ECF. Polymarket has the Hurricanes at -1.5 goals priced at 47 cents.

Favorite Picks: Game 5 winner – Carolina, ECF Game 5 Point Spread – Hurricanes -1.5 goals

Canadiens v Hurricanes Game 5 Latest News

The injury reports for Friday night’s game are clean for both teams. In lieu of any injury updates, the media focus has been on just how dominant the Hurricanes were in their Game 4 shutout of the Canadiens.

It’s worth repeating that Carolina pressured the Canadiens’ defense during every minute on Wednesday. Game 4 wasn’t anything close to a nail-biter, making the Hurricanes’ dual overtime wins earlier in the series seem justified.

Of course, no one expected the WCF to end the way it did – which also has media outlets praising the Vegas Golden Knights. If Carolina wins Friday, they advance to the Stanley Cup Finals to take on VGK. If Montreal is able to pull off the upset, the series will return to Centre Bell in Montreal on Sunday… but not many people in the news business think that’s going to happen.

Canadiens v Hurricanes Game 5 Market Movement

The main market movement leading up to Game 5 is the “exact matchup” line for the 2025-26 Stanley Cup Finals. Polymarket traders have squeezed out any value that might have been secured before Wednesday night’s beatdown of the Canadiens. The “exact matchup” for VGK versus the Carolina Hurricanes is extremely expensive – coming in at 96 cents.

If ever there was a time for hardcore Canadiens fans to gain a modicum of value, now is it. The per-contract price on the Canadiens advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals to meet VGK is all the way down to four cents. That may still seem like somewhat of a bargain, but only if you’re predicting that Montreal will win three straight against the Hurricanes to advance.

The puck drops for Game 5 of the ECF Friday night at 8:00 Eastern Time. The action will be televised live on TNT. If you have an HBO Max subscription in the US, you can stream the game from that platform.
