There has been no lack of excitement in the Eastern Conference Finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Monday night, the Hurricanes won a second consecutive overtime game by a score of 3-2.
The Hurricanes now enjoy a 2-1 series lead and have wrested home ice advantage away from the Canadiens. Action returns to Montreal on Wednesday, as both teams meet in a pivotal Game 4 that could determine who advances to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Polymarket sports prediction traders are designating the Hurricanes as a favorite for Game 4, with the moneyline forecast currently priced at 57 cents. However, those same Polymarket users believe that the Canadiens +1.5 goals line is too good to pass up.
We agree wholeheartedly. If you’re a Canadiens fan who’s looking for a home ice win, then take the +1.5 goals for Game 4 at 67 cents per contract. Both Carolina wins so far in the series have come by one goal, and in overtime.
If you’re rooting for a Hurricanes win for Game 4, we like the moneyline at 57 cents, but would stay away from giving up 1.5 goals just to get a better price. In short, take the Hurricanes straight up or take the Canadiens with the added 1.5 goals spread.
The injury report for both teams is relatively clean, with the exception of Canadiens forward Patrik Laine still out with an abdomen strain. Defenseman Lane Hutson appears to have recovered from a hard bank against his knee that occurred during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Leading up to Game 4, much of the media is focusing on Carolina’s back-to-back overtime victories, especially the most recent win against the Canadiens in Montreal. If the Hurricanes are able to win in Game 4, they’ll be on the brink of advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals – to face the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Canadiens moneyline for Game 4 has been downgraded significantly on the Polymarket exchange. Traders can get 43 cents per contract on that moneyline if they’re confident Montreal can overcome Carolina this Wednesday night.
The “exact matchup” for the Stanley Cup Finals has also spiked for a Hurricanes vs. Golden Knights series. As of late Wednesday (just a few minutes after Game 4 of the NHL WCF), the price for those two teams to meet to determine who wins the Stanley Cup is 71 cents per contract.
Interestingly enough, the total “over/under” for goals scored in the Game 4 ECF matchup is evenly priced. This means Polymarket traders can get the OVER 5.5 total goals for 49 cents, and perhaps even 50 depending on the amount traded.
Although Games 2 and 3 ended in a 3-2 final score with an overtime period, Game 1 had featured a total of 8 goals, with Montreal coming out on top by a final tally of 6-2. If you’re unable to attend Game 4 live in Montreal, you can catch all the on-ice action starting at 8:00pm Eastern on TNT.
