Popular culture has come a long way since dial-up internet connections and flip phones were all the rage. In today’s world, prediction market apps allow traders to forecast current events at the touch of a smart screen.
But are these markets “popular” in terms of trading volume? We’ve set out to answer that question with a resounding “yes!” Here are the Top 5 culture markets that are currently available on Polymarket.
Regular viewers of NewsNation may be unaware, but an official confirmation by the US government that aliens truly exist is still considered to be a longshot trade among those who place real money behind their pop culture predictions. That hasn’t deterred trading volume, however.
More than $66 million is currently riding on this other-worldly market. As expected, a government-backed confirmation of aliens on our planet before the end of this month is trading at just one penny. But did you know that the contract prices for a tell-all admission are close to 4¢ for those willing to wait until the end of the year?
That’s aliens for you… traders are aiming to will them into existence and make a few bucks in the process.
Imagine a robed deity appearing before us, just to find out that it’s actually a rain god and not Jesus Christ in the flesh. That would significantly dampen the spirits of traders who absorbed contracts at 4¢ apiece back in February on the Holy entity’s long-awaited return before December 31st. JFC!
Traders who aren’t feeling the divinity vibe can still pick up the “no” contracts on this market for 98.6¢ each, but are going to be sorry if “The Second Coming” actually occurs. They’re hoping that Jesus decides to wait until the New Year (at the earliest) to reveal Himself and settle this $66 million market once and for all.
Be careful with this market… you don’t want to be eaten by a demogorgon, after all! For all intents and purposes, the live-action Stranger Things series ended with season 5 last year. That hasn’t stopped forecasters from placing more than $30 million in trades on whether the show is truly over, though.
If Netflix releases a new episode of the original series by March 31st, 2027, contracts that are now available for 8¢ will resolve at exactly one dollar. Keep in mind that new episodes for the animated “Tales from ‘85” series don’t count toward this specific Polymarket event.
Still, it would be nice to reminisce. Stranger Things has become a cultural phenomenon in the United States and worldwide.
Most of the $17 million in trading volume that’s riding on this market has been placed on Spider-Man: Brand New Day taking the top prize. Since its premiere back in July, the movie has grossed over $2.3 billion and has reserved seating in many theaters from now until December.
While Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” will clearly outperform Spider-Man: Brand New Day in terms of Tomatometer rankings, the latter is nearly a lock to make the most money at the box office in 2026. Value seekers may want to lock in 94¢ contracts on the wide-screen sensation given how much of a lead it currently enjoys over the competition.
There are still 6¢ available for traders who think Avengers: Doomsday will outperform its Marvel counterpart. However, the issue is timing. The latest Avengers movie won’t be released to the public until December of this year, giving it little to no chance of overcoming the massive box-office lead that Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already achieved.
Heat waves have struck a large portion of the globe this year, impacting everything from professional sports events to leisurely strolls. Without a doubt, 2026 has been a great year to have air conditioning!
But will it be the hottest year ever recorded? Polymarket forecasters are all but convinced it will be. They’ve increased the price for a record-breaking year to 80¢ per contract and only need mild Q4 temperatures to secure a prediction market win.
This market is entirely dependent on the ranking that’s published by the Global Land-Ocean Temperature Index and nothing else. The official information is expected to be released to the public on January 13th, 2027.
Traders who want to predict pop culture events can sign up for a new Polymarket account today and start forecasting in less than five minutes.
