The Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers are set to go at it, as two franchises defined by shrewd management and low payrolls search for their first World Series.
The Rays disposed of the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians to get here, while the Brewers beat the San Diego Padres and swept the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers. First pitch is at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 23.
It should be an interesting series, so let’s look into prediction markets to see where the best trades are for Game 1.
The Brewers are priced at 60 cents to win this game. This makes sense because they’re at home with the best pitcher in baseball on the mound, Jacob Misiorowski. While Drew Rasmussen has been excellent for the Rays, Milwaukee has the pitching advantage here.
The total is set at 6.5 runs, with the Under favored at 54 cents. Given how good these pitchers are, coupled with the strength of both bullpens, the low number makes complete sense. But I’m hesitant to go with the Under there since it’s so low, so we’re going to ride with a side here.
I’m going with the Brewers to win this game, even at 60 cents. The key for me here is the rest factor. Since the Brewers swept the Dodgers, they haven’t played in seven days. While some may say that can make them rusty, I view it as a positive to refresh their overworked pitching staff.
Jacob Misiorowski has been showing signs of fatigue down the stretch. The Brewers limited his innings in September, and he’s been held to 4.1 innings or fewer in both postseason starts. With 11 days since his last start, I’m expecting a much better performance here.
That could be enough for the Brewers to get it done at home, where they’ve been dominant all year, as highlighted by their 55-26 record. The Rays are not nearly as good on the road, going 43-38. Look for the Brewers to get it done here.
In looking at MLB prediction markets, we see that there has been limited movement on this Rays vs Brewers game so far. Milwaukee has been locked in at 60 cents. I’m taking the Brew Crew to get it done with Jacob Misiorowski on the mound. It should be a low-scoring game, but I give the edge to the Brewers because they’re at home. The extended rest should work in their favor as well.
