Political campaigns across the country have easily spent a combined ten figures on this year’s US midterm elections. On Tuesday, November 3rd, voters nationwide will take to the polls to choose their favorite candidates to fill seats within both chambers of Congress.
Forecasters have flocked to the most popular prediction market apps, such as Kalshi, to weigh in on the outcomes of individual races as well as which party is most likely to control the Senate once new members are sworn in during the first week of January. Here are the Top 5 most competitive US midterm election markets that traders can buy and sell contracts for right now via the Kalshi exchange.
Despite the 65-to-35 percentages that currently show the Democrats as “favorites” to win control of the US Senate on November 3rd, this market remains the most competitive of all Kalshi midterm election markets. Over the next week, trading volume on Senate control alone will eclipse $100 million on the Kalshi exchange.
In our opinion, the Democrats have the best chance of securing more seats in the upper chamber of Congress when compared to Republicans, but there’s no way we’re purchasing the Dems’ contracts at 65¢. That’s too expensive for our tastes!
Until those contracts drop significantly in price (and they probably won’t), we’re opting to purchase 36¢ contracts on a Republican upset in the Senate. It’s not that we think the GOP is favored to retain control of the Senate. We simply believe the Democrats’ contract prices for this market are massively elevated at this juncture.
Political prediction markets have heated up this week due to the competitive nature of the Texas Senate race between Democrat James Talarico and sitting Attorney General and Republican Ken Paxton.
With one week remaining until November 3rd, these two have prompted traders to pour in close to $50 million in trading volume on Kalshi alone. Will Elon Musk’s financial interest in this race sway the results in Paxton’s favor? Or will Talarico pull off a major coup and swipe the seat from its traditional GOP control?
Currently, Talarico is a two-to-one favorite to take over the seat that was previously occupied by John Cornyn. Ironically, Cornyn lost the Republican primary election earlier this year after President Donald Trump endorsed Paxton. This is the race that is expected to determine which party controls the US Senate.
This is another closely watched US Senate race that could prove pivotal in determining which party will have more Senate seats to start the 2027 calendar year. Incumbent Susan Collins is near the end of her fifth term as a Senator for the state of Maine and is looking to win a sixth term in what is otherwise a “blue” jurisdiction.
Of all the “blue wave” projections, this race is the most likely to buck that anticipated trend, but forecasters wouldn’t know that by only looking at the Kalshi percentages. The Democrats drove out Graham Platner in July as endorsements waned while internal pressure mounted on Platner to withdraw from the Senate race.
Susan Collins is a juggernaut in Maine politics, which is why we’re choosing her to return for a sixth term as Maine’s senior Senate member. Collins’ contracts to win are currently priced at 41¢ following more than $15 million in trading volume.
Judging by the Kalshi prediction market for this race, Republican Mike Rogers is toast. As Kalshi’s market on who will win the Michigan Senate race works its way toward $15 million, traders have sparked a rebound in El-Sayed’s contract prices from 56¢ to 69¢ in less than three months.
There’s a reason why the Top 5 most competitive US midterm prediction markets revolve around the United States Senate. It’s because Democratic control of the US House of Representatives is assumed to be a “done deal.”
Democratic socialists had mixed results during the primary elections, but we fully expect Abdul El-Sayed to be the next Michigan Senate member by defeating Mike Rogers on November 3rd.
This race was a virtual “dead heat” in August. But disillusionment with the current Administration has caused prediction market forecasters to put their trades behind the candidate who began his public service career way back in 1975 (at 23 years of age) as a member of the House of Representatives for Ohio.
Sherrod Brown has already been a three-term US Senator from Ohio, but lost his incumbent bid in 2024 against Republican Bernie Moreno. This has caused a bit of confusion for traders who only follow US midterm elections casually. Brown and Republican Jon Husted are competing for the vacant seat that was left open as a result of J.D. Vance’s escalation to the role of Vice President. Bernie Moreno still occupies the other Ohio Senate seat.
