The United States tech sector is experiencing a downward trend in terms of public support for AI-driven mechanisms. The potential for a bursting of the “AI bubble” has caused a seismic shift on the top prediction markets as a result.

As the 2026 midterm elections loom, forecasters have shifted volume toward markets that are related to the outcomes of possible data center moratoriums sponsored by individual states. When measured by 24-hour volume, the following markets have crept up to the top of Polymarket’s active list for AI-related trades.

State moratoriums on AI data centers

When ChatGPT exploded onto the scene in the early 2020s, users were amazed by the instant feedback they could receive on a broad range of topics from personal coaching to spell-check edits. But the proliferation of agentic AI, combined with sector-specific job losses and soaring utility bills, has resulted in a “double take” from voters.

Indiana leads the way on Polymarket with $4 million in trading volume related to precisely “when” the state will enforce a moratorium on data centers. All the relevant markets in Indiana have experienced a sharp, per-contract decline in recent weeks, but will likely shift upward on New Year’s Day.

Louisiana is another state that could implement a data center ban in upcoming years. The combined market is inching toward $1 million, with forecasters sending all 2027 into relevance. So far, a Louisiana constitutional ban on data centers remains a longshot, but these markets could heat up once new state officials are seated in early 2027.

Favorite Picks: Most likely state-sponsored AI data center moratorium – Indiana, Implementation date – by June 30th, 2027

Google Gemini is gaining market share

Once upon a time, ChatGPT was the only LLM with global exposure. That has changed. By the end of the 2026 calendar year, Polymarket traders believe that Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude are the most likely candidates for possessing the “best” AI model.

The results will be based solely on the Chatbot Arena LLM Leaderboard at the end of the year. Right now, traders can buy “yes” contracts on Google and Anthropic for just over 40¢ each. OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, is a distant third in this market. The company’s contracts on whether it will be rated as the best AI model are all the way down to 8 cents.

As AI agents are placed in a position of responsibility for more tasks, the popularity of “basic” LLM functions that were once labeled as “groundbreaking” will continue to wane. Google has a massive advantage on this front due to the fact that it can leverage Gmail, YouTube, and Google Search users and onboard them to Gemini with very little friction.

Anthropic’s valuation by the end of the year

Trillion-dollar valuations for companies have become more prevalent (if not commonplace). There’s a $5.5 million Polymarket section right now on what Anthropic’s valuation will be by the end of the 2026 calendar year. The trade that’s closest to “even odds” is $2.5 trillion. The “yes” contracts are available for 47¢ each, which is up more than 30 percentage points from just a month ago.

Simply put, government contracts and cooperation are major factors in terms of what Anthropic’s valuation will be on December 31st. Basic LLM outputs related to movie recommendations and essay drafts aren’t attracting investment from government entities. Real-time analysis that can influence the country’s decisions on a split-second basis is all the rage nowadays.
