This Sunday night, college football fans will be treated to a season-opening matchup between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Wisconsin Badgers. Ranked No. 4 in the country, Notre Dame is looking to rebound from last year’s gut-wrenching CFP snub that was all but cemented after the team started 0-2.
This year, the Fighting Irish aren’t taking any chances. Prediction markets have already picked up on the fact that Notre Dame is automatically granted a spot in the postseason if it finishes in the top 12 of the CFP rankings, regardless of any shenanigans the College Football Playoff Selection Committee may or may not have up its sleeve.
As an independent (no conference affiliation) Division I college football team, Notre Dame gets to hand-pick its opponents each year. Head coach Marcus Freeman will open this season against the Wisconsin Badgers of the Big Ten in hopes of avoiding another early-season letdown. Simply put, the Fighting Irish are substituting games against Miami and Texas A&M with (much) more favorable matchups against Wisconsin and Rice. Technically, the Fighting Irish won’t play an “away” game until September 26th when they travel down Route 31 to West Lafayette to take on the Purdue Boilermakers.
As for Sunday night’s game, Notre Dame is a massive favorite to come out on top against the Badgers. Although the game will be played at Lambeau Field in Green Bay (with Notre Dame as the “home” team), both teams have opted for multi-million-dollar “appearance fees” that allows the NFL Packers’ organization to collect all live gate and concession proceeds.
Kalshi traders who are motivated by huge longshots would be well advised to secure Wisconsin contracts at 9¢ apiece and then sell them back if the Badgers happen to score first. We’re going with Notre Dame to open its regular season campaign with a robust win against Wisconsin, even though the game is being played deep within “Badger territory.”
NBC has exclusive broadcasting rights over Sunday night’s college football matchup, which means live streamers will need a premium Peacock subscription to keep up with all the action as it happens. Notre Dame will be wearing its 2026 Shamrock Series uniforms when it takes the field against the Badgers.
If all goes according to plan for the Fighting Irish, CJ Carr will be able to move the team’s offense down the field at will against the seemingly outmatched Badgers. Look for the Fighting Irish to open with screen passes that evolve into seam routes during the second half.
Entering Thursday morning, this matchup has yet to attract $200,000 in total trading volume on Kalshi. That will change, however. Expect volume to skyrocket into the millions by Sunday’s kickoff time.
Wisconsin’s contract price could rise above 10¢ over the next couple of days, which is why we recommend securing those contracts now for traders who are interested in supporting the underdog. The first quarter may be the most “unpredictable” period of Sunday’s game, which could result in Wisconsin scoring first before Notre Dame’s offense gets an opportunity to touch the ball.
