They’re able to wear other teams down and direct the action according to their terms. However, we should note that Lamine Yamal, the centrepiece of the Spain side, is returning to the squad still nursing a hamstring injury. At slightly less than 100%, he’s still incredibly powerful, but Spain may need to carefully manage his time on the pitch to make sure he’s in peak condition for the big occasions.
If you’re backing pure, raw talent, it’s hard to deny France as World Cup winners. The squad choice includes Ballon d’Or holders, UEFA Champions League winners and Bundesliga Champions, and it’s hard to back any other team against this barrage. Perhaps the only issue is managing all of these superbly talented individual players into the strongest starting XI.

The increased number of teams in this World Cup, and the particular challenges of playing across three countries and countless stadiums, mean that the normal rules may not apply. Instead, teams that can manage fatigue, and know when to push and when to conserve energy, could come out on top.
