Report: Illinois' Darius Paul Arrested In France
According to Bret Behrens of WCIA-TV (Champaign, Il.), Darius Paul of the Illinois men’s basketball team was arrested Friday morning in Deauville, France. The Illini are currently in Normandy in the middle of their on a preseason trip to Europe.
Here’s Behrens:
Paul transferred from Western Michigan in 2013, where he was the 2012-2013 MAC freshman of the year. Per NCAA transfer regulations, he sat out the 2013-2014 season. He was suspended for the entirety of last season after first getting arrested in Champaign for resisting arrest and underage drinking, then failing a pair of drug tests. Paul spent 90 days last year in rehab in Houston before playing a year of very good junior college basketball at Lamar State in Port Arthur, Tx.
Coach John Groce has suspended Paul indefinitely and has said his position will be re-evaluated when the team returns from Europe.
