Report: Tennessee Fires Butch Jones
Photo: Jamie Squire/ [object Object] The morning after a 50-17 loss to Missouri that dropped the Volunteers’ conference record to 0-6, Tennessee has fired head football coach Butch Jones, according to Bruce Feldman.
Coming off back-to-back 9-4 seasons, the Vols had relatively optimistic expectations coming into 2017. They were ranked as high as 23rd in the AP poll early in the season after wins against Georgia Tech and Indiana State, but a loss to Florida kicked off a current 2-6 stretch highlighted only by wins against Massachusetts and Southern Mississippi.
Jones was an overall 34-27 since taking over as head coach in 2013, but he was a much more damning 14-24 in SEC play. There is no word yet on who Tennessee’s interim coach will be.*
