Mandatory Credit: Marc DesRosiers-IMAGN Images Olle Lycksell scored the go-ahead goal early in the second period against his former team, fueling the host Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night.
Like Lycksell, Michael Amadio also scored his first goal of the season to help the Senators snap a two-game losing streak. It was just the second win for Ottawa in the last seven games.
Linus Ullmark overcame Tyson Foerster's goal 29 seconds into the game to make 21 saves. Ullmark highlighted his night by denying Matvei Michkov on a point-blank chance late in the first period after Michkov exited the penalty box.
Former Flyers captain Claude Giroux notched his team-high-tying fourth assist of the season for Ottawa.
The Senators failed to convert any of their five power-play opportunities. Ottawa, however, denied Philadelphia on all three of its chances with the man advantage.
Dan Vladar turned aside 31 shots for the Flyers, whose modest two-game winning streak came to a halt as they fell to 0-2-1 on the road this season.
Signed to a one-year, two-way contract with Ottawa on July 1, Lycksell was recalled from Belleville of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.
Lycksell made his former team pay by converting Lars Eller's nifty between-the-legs backhanded feed. Lycksell slammed the puck home from the doorstep to give Ottawa a 2-1 lead at 3:05 of the second period.
Foerster jumped on the ice during a line change and wired a shot from the high slot that beat Ullmark to open the scoring. Foerster's goal was his third of the season and second in as many games.
Ottawa responded nearly seven and a half minutes later to forge a 1-1 tie.
Giroux alertly wired a cross-slot feed from along the left-wing wall to an unmarked Amadio, who wristed a shot from the right circle that beat Vladar inside the near post.
