The Nuggets Desperately Wanted To Avoid The Luxury Tax
The Denver Nuggets pulled off a midnight trade this morning, sending the expiring contracts of Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur to the Nets in exchange for guard Isaiah Whitehead, who was promptly waived. That the Nuggets didn’t receive much of anything in return might not make sense at first, but ...

After 17 Seasons In San Antonio, Tony Parker Will Join The Charlotte Hornets
There’s no particular reason why this should be received as bad news, but it is something of a bummer: Tony Parker is leaving the San Antonio Spurs after 17 seasons to serve as a backup to Kemba Walker in Charlotte....
Okay, Sure, Devin Booker Is Now A Max Player
Devin Booker—Devin Booker—is set to become one of the highest-paid players in the NBA, after agreeing to a max contract extension with the Phoenix Suns. In a move that makes Sacramento’s $78 million offer sheet to Zach LaVine look downright frugal by comparison, the Suns will pay Booker a whopping $...
Bulls Save Kings From Themselves, Match $78 Million Restricted Free Agency Offer For Zach LaVine
The Bulls and Kings, two teams roughly as far from NBA relevance as possible, spent Friday in a brief tug-of-war over the right to pay huge sums of money for the services of Zach LaVine, a butt player with zero track record of contributing to anything even approaching functional professional basketb...

The Thunder currently have a historically absurd $310 million payroll, and in order to cut that down, they’ve decided to turn their attention towards the albatross wearing No. 7....
Under No Circumstances Will You Ever Guess Which Utah Jazz Rookie Provoked A Tussle With Trae Young
The dreaded Grayson Allen started Thursday night’s Hawks-Jazz Summer League tilt in Salt Lake City. You will be very glad to know that he’s shooting poorly and struggling to score (two points on 1-of-10 shooting through three quarters, but a tidy eight assists to zero turnovers). You will not be sur...
Summer League Takeaway: Marvin Bagley III Lacks The Skills To Pay The Bills
The annual Summer League parade of zero-dimensional guards is supposed to be redeemed by the play of the year’s hot-shot lottery picks. This is why anyone watches the various summer leagues: for those rare and blessed moments when this or that miscellaneous journeyman guard forgets to throw up anoth...
Report: Kawhi Leonard Hid From Spurs Execs When They Came To Check Up On Him
At this point, the relationship between Kawhi Leonard and the Spurs seems irrevocably broken, and the only thing left to settle is whether the Lakers wait for him to hit free agency or the Spurs take a cut-rate deal to get something back in return for their superstar. ESPN’s Spurs reporter, Michael ...
Uncle Drew Probably Shouldn't Exist, But Definitely Isn't Bad
It is not a new or strange thing for professional athletes to want to be seen as more than the sum of their athletic achievements, and you don’t need to be a professional athlete to understand why. For the athletic portion of their strange hothouse lives, these people—normal humans, except for the ...

Report: Don't Worry, LeBron Is Totally Cool With The Lakers Signing All Those Weirdos
The blueprint for a successful LeBron James-led team has been pretty well-established over the course of the last few seasons: Surround him with as many shooters as possible and wait for him to get them wide-open shots. So it was definitely odd to see the Lakers, fresh off convincing LeBron to join ...
The OKC Thunder—Yeah, The Thunder—Now Have The Most Expensive Roster In NBA History
In an NBA offseason already filled with earth-shaking moves from the likes of LeBron James and DeMarcus Cousins, it was 34-year-old journeyman point guard Raymond Felton who truly pushed his team into uncharted territory when he resigned with the Thunder for one year and $2.4 million. On the heels o...
Let's Unplug The NBA Offseason And Plug It Back In
There is no fan community in American sports that thinks more about how it does what it does than NBA fans. This isn’t necessarily a compliment, but it’s not really up for debate, either. The NBA is the best and most interesting league that we’ve got, and as such is pretty excellent to get excited o...
Oh Come On, The Lakers Passed On DeMarcus Cousins?
It’s undeniably wack that the Warriors, with the signing of DeMarcus Cousins to a one-year, $5.3 million deal on Monday night, have managed to assemble an entire starting five that, when healthy, could run the Eastern Conference All-Stars off the court. But what makes the earthquake of the Cousins s...
Yes, Surely Dwight Howard Is Just The Man To Solve The Wizards' Crippling Chemistry Issues
Why did the Wizards fade down the stretch last season and finish 10-15 after the All-Star break on their way to another first-round exit? Part of it was an injury to John Wall, part of it was their questionable depth, but an important reason was that they loathed each other. Exhibit A: Marcin Gortat...
