Report: Steve Francis Not Using Drugs, Just Old
The last time we checked in on former NBA player Steve Francis, he was getting strangled by his own chain at a club. When Francis showed up courtside at a Dec. 12 Lakers-Rockets game, his appearance was apparently so concerning that TMZ had to publish a report today assuring the public that the 38-y...

Andre Drummond And Chris Paul Star In A Very Fun Basketball Play
There are two things that are wonderful about this play. The first, most obvious thing is Chris Paul getting napped by a behind-the-back dribble from Andre Drummond, of all people. The second thing is Drummond, who is a fun player precisely because he plays like a BattleMech that’s got a few bugs in...
The First Basketball Game Was Just A Big Brawl
The University of Kansas has unearthed a rare audio recording of basketball inventor James Naismith discussing the first-ever basketball game. The audio, recorded in 1939, is a fun listen, and not just because Naismith sounds like a real-life Simpsons character. The best part is when Naismith descri...

When NBA referee Bill Kennedy came out as gay after being called a “faggot” by Kings point guard Rajon Rondo, an old story about a confrontation between Kennedy then-Celtics coach Doc Rivers during a 2009 playoff game started making the rounds. The story, as recalled by disgraced NBA ref Tim Donaghy...

Basketball Dog Goes Down

Taj Gibson Was Totally Chill About Blake Griffin Almost Taking His Head Off
In the third quarter of last night’s 83-80 loss to the Bulls, Blake Griffin completely misjudged Taj Gibson’s pump fake and inner arm-chopped him across the face. It’s the type of foul that oftentimes causes a fight, or maybe just a “hold me back bro!” confrontation, but not this time. Griffin was i...

Let’s Talk About What Constitutes Acceptable Tanking
The Philadelphia 76ers just stripped bizarro wunderkind and general manager Sam Hinkie of virtually all his authority. Hinkie, as you may recall, is the architect of a “Process” by which you suck as hard as possible in order to acquire as many assets as possible, and then you trade those assets away...
Rajon Rondo Is Back To Being A Great NBA Oddball
One of the more depressing things to happen last NBA season was the disappearance of Rajon Rondo, who began the season as a bad fit on a young Celtics team and accelerated toward oblivion after a midseason trade to the Mavericks. Rondo was so out of sorts last season that it was hard not to wonder i...
All Hail Dirk Nowitzki, Whose Old Ass Is Still Dominating
There was an easy bit of symmetry to latch onto during last night’s Mavericks-Knicks game, that being the image of 20-year-old Kristaps Porzingis going toe-to-toe with 37-year-old Dirk Nowitzki. The narrative arc almost draws itself: Here we have the best European import the NBA has ever seen facing...

You probably missed the Suns-Grizzlies game while watching football yesterday, and that’s totally fine, but you should check out the buzzer-beating alley-oop that won the game for the Grizzlies. It was a crazy play. It was so crazy, in fact, that it inspired Vince Carter to do some slappin’....
