Trinidad And Tobago's Golazo Adds To American Frustration
All the USMNT needed tonight was some sort of result in order to get peace of mind and guarantee World Cup qualification, but an own goal from Omar Gonzalez, and then, a stunning long-distance golazo from Trinidad & Tobago’s Alvin Jones has put the Americans down 2-0 at half.
Jones’s rocket shot looked extremely ill-advised off his foot but somehow curved beyond an outstretched Tim Howard, and it gave the already eliminated Trinidad an unforgettable moment and an unbelievable lead.
Magically, barring second-half comebacks from Honduras and Panama, the USMNT is still fine, and they still automatically qualify. I guess a straightforward night was just too much to expect.
