U.S. Speedskating Moves To Drop Under Armour Race Suits
U.S. Speedskating has officially requested permission to switch race suits, with a number of skaters convinced the new Under Armour suits are responsible for their underwhelming performances so far.
The suits were conceived and tested in a lab, but skaters never got the chance to wear them in competition because Under Armour wanted the press of an Olympic rollout.
U.S. Speedskating has petitioned both the IOC and the International Skating Union, and a decision is expected by day's end. If given the OK, skaters will have the option of wearing the race suits they wore during the World Cup, where they won regularly. How many will actually switch? Executive director Ted Morris says "it's pretty darn close to 50-50."
