Fanatics Sportsbook launched in 2023 and didn’t take long to become one of the trending names in US sports betting. Currently, the brand is legal in 23 states, some of which also permit retail betting and casino gaming.

Residing in one of the Fanatics legal states is the only way to bet on the sportsbook. As you read on, I’ll highlight the exact locations where the betting app is legal, its retail offerings, casino gaming, and how to get started. If your state isn’t supported, I’ll also show you how to stay informed about updates.

In each of the above locations, Fanatics operates under a fully licensed online sportsbook model. Hence, you can bet without any issues. From my checks, you must be at least 21 years old to register on the app. You can download the Fanatics Sportsbook app from the App Store or Google Play.

During my Fanatics Sportsbook review, I noted that its retail (in-person) betting is currently available in a select few jurisdictions. These include:

ArizonaHighway 87, Mile Marker 251, Payson, AZ 85541, Fanatics Sportsbook at Mazatzal Casino

How Fanatics retail betting works

I’ve placed bets at a couple of legal Fanatics retail locations, and the operation is much like traditional sportsbooks found in casinos or at racetracks. Here’s what’s involved:

In-person registration

You can visit a licensed Fanatics Sportsbook location to sign up for a Fanatics account in person. There’s no online option for this.

Identity and age verification

At the retail location, you’ll need to show a government-issued ID to confirm you’re 21 or older. Also, it proves you’re a resident of the state where the sportsbook is located.

Funding your account

In my experience, you can usually deposit cash, make a wager, or load money onto your account using counters or kiosks.

Placing bets

To bet, you use the kiosks or touch screen terminals provided onsite. In some places, you’ll submit your bets over a counter.

Cashing out

If you win your bet, you return to the venue to collect payouts in person. Usually, you can go with bank transfers or receive cash directly at the counter.

Why is Fanatics’ retail betting limited to a few states?

I had the above question during my review, so I did some research. The fact is that retail sports betting requires favorable state regulations and local partnerships with casinos or sportsbooks. Unlike online, which can operate under broader digital frameworks, retail outlets need:

  • Physical licensing agreements with land-based venues
  • Infrastructure such as kiosks, terminals, and staff.
  • State approval of brick-and-mortar locations.

Not every state where Fanatics is online permits these types of partnerships or offers licensing for retail. As a result, while Fanatics’ online betting reaches across more of the country, retail betting remains limited to the seven states I listed. There’s also the possibility for the sportsbook to expand as laws change.

Ever since the repeal of PASPA (the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) in 2018, each state has the power to decide its own legislation regarding whether they permit sports betting, casino gaming and so on.

Not only that, but each state will have their own online gambling authority who has the power to decide which brands get the licensing necessary to operate within the state borders. As a result, while Fanatics might be legally available in one state, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is going to be available over the border in another state.

If you are not sure whether Fanatics is legal where you currently reside, you can simply do the following:

  • Go to the Fanatics site and you should be able to see the full list of the brand’s available states
  • Check with the online gambling authority in your state of residence to see if Fanatics is legally available there

What states will legalize Fanatics next?

At this point, I’m sure you’re aware of the states where Fanatics is legal for sports betting, retail betting, and casino gaming. Perhaps the brand isn’t active in your location, and you’re wondering if things will change soon.

Well, from my research, there’s no official roadmap yet for where Fanatics will go live next. The sportsbook doesn’t publicly publish a list of upcoming launches.

What you can do is to stay on Fanatics’ radar. If your state isn’t live yet, you can fill out the Be one of the first to play in your state form on the official website. You just have to provide your email and location. Then, you’ll receive updates the moment Fanatics legally launches in your area. You can also keep tabs on sports betting reviews on this website. I’ll update this page once Fanatics expands its reach.

Responsible gaming at Fanatics

In order to legally operate in so many states, Fanatics has to be able to show that it is capable of helping you keep your wagering in check. As such, you should be able to access the following player protection tools via the sportsbook’s site and app:

  • Flexible limits: You should get quick and easy ways to apply limits on everything from how much you can deposit to how much time you spend playing and betting.
  • Time-outs and exclusions: You can also get help in giving yourself a time-out or even taking the more severe measure of banning yourself from the site.

Notable 2025 Events

  • June 2025 – Fanatics Sportsbook is live in 23 states as well as Washington, D.C.
  • December 1, 2025 – Missouri’s official sports betting launch date
  • September 2025 – Illinois set to implement a $0.50 fee for each online wager, which will be the first of its kind in the U.S.

What’s Coming

Missouri:

  • Online sports betting approved via referendum
  • Full launch of online betting expected on December 1, 2025

Illinois:

  • New IL tax structure kicks in Sep 2025
  • Fanatics will be charging customers a $0.50 transaction fee per online wager

To be straightforward, Fanatics Sportsbook is legal because it plays by the rules in every state where it operates. The brand didn’t just show up and launch an app. Instead, here are the key reasons why the sportsbook is allowed to operate:

🏅 PointsBet licenses

Fanatics didn’t start from scratch. The brand actually bought the PointsBet US sports betting business, which came with all the licenses and approvals in place. That’s how Fanatics was able to go live in over 20 states so quickly, as it just stepped into PointsBet’s shoes.

🗺️ State-by-state licensing

Every US state has its own gambling regulations, so Fanatics must obtain a license individually in each one. That means applying, getting approved by local regulators, and agreeing to follow all their conditions. For Fanatics to be active in 23 states, it shows the sportsbook is highly compliant with legal requirements.

🌍 Geolocation tech

When I installed the Fanatics app, I noticed that it utilizes location tracking to ensure you’re physically in a state where betting is legal before you can place a bet. If you’re not inside a legal state’s borders, you won’t be able to use the sportsbook. It’s one way the brand has remained compliant by ensuring ineligible bettors can’t stake.

🔞 Age checks

You have to be 21 or older to sign up on the Fanatics app. This limit meets the minimum age requirement in all US states, including places where the sportsbook isn’t legal.

💳 Safe payments

To maintain its license and legal status, Fanatics uses only secure payment options approved by each state. Additionally, the sportsbook complies with audits and financial checks, necessary to confirm that your funds are protected.

Fanatics verification requirements

To use Fanatics Sportsbook in a legal state, you’ll go through an identity verification process. I did this during my review, and it starts from registration, where you have to provide the following:

  • Your legal first and last name
  • Date of birth (you must be 21+)
  • Residential address
  • Active email address
  • Phone number
  • Social Security number (SSN)

In some cases, Fanatics may also ask you to upload a valid government-issued ID, like a driver’s license, passport, or state ID. I observed that this happens if the app can’t automatically confirm your details with your SSN. Hence, it’s to verify that your details match and you are who you claim to be.

Fanatics also carries out verification to comply with state gambling laws and regulations. You can rest assured that all data you provide is safe and secure and handled according to Fanatics’ strict Privacy Policy.

Why Fanatics Casino support is more limited than sports betting

Again, I was curious why Fanatics is live with sports betting in over 20 states, but its casino gaming is only available in four places. Here are the reasons:

🎲 Fanatics Takes Over PointsBet’s Licenses

Fanatics entered the market by acquiring PointsBet, which holds online casino licenses in the four states where Fanatics is permitted to operate. This acquisition clarifies why Fanatics doesn’t offer daily fantasy sports (DFS) since PointsBet wasn’t a major DFS site in the US.

🚪 Fewer States Allow Online Casino

While many US states have legalized sports betting and allow sweepstakes casinos, only a handful allow online real money casinos. Therefore, even if Fanatics wanted to expand, it can’t do so legally in most jurisdictions yet.

📄 Casino Licensing Is More Rigorous

Obtaining a casino license typically requires more time, paperwork, and partnerships with land-based casinos. As a new brand, Fanatics focused on launching its sportsbook first because it was ready to roll out.

Yes, Fanatics Sportsbook is a reliable and legal option for online betting in the US. Of course, it’s not the only sportsbook available in the 23 states where it’s legal. However, picking Fanatics comes with some notable benefits, including:

🤖 Intuitive app

Fanatics Sportsbook is designed with ease of use in mind, especially for everyday bettors. On iOS and Android, I found the app’s layout to be clean and smooth to browse. Sports are clearly displayed in tabs at the top with a search bar to find any game.

Furthermore, on each sports page, the markets are well-labeled with highlights for popular ones like spreads, moneylines, and totals. Your bet slips are only a tap away from the bottom menu.

🏅 Good range of sports

Via the Fanatics app, I came across all major American leagues and also international competitions. These include the likes of the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, College football and basketball, UFC, boxing, golf, and tennis. Also, there are soccer events like the Premier League, Champions League, MLS, and niche options like darts and motorsports.

📈 Fair odds

One of the key signs of a trustworthy sportsbook is if it provides decent odds. Fanatics hold up well here, according to my calculations. The sportsbook offers margins that range from 3.5% to 5.5% depending on the market. Hence, you’re looking at a potential payout percentage of 94.5% to 96.5%, which is on par with major competitors.

💳 Variety of payment methods per state

Funding my account and cashing out on the Fanatics app is always seamless thanks to the solid payment methods. While the exact options vary by state, you can expect debit/credit cards, online banking (ACH), PayPal, Venmo, and Play+ prepaid cards. The app shows you only the available options in your state, and all transactions are encrypted.

📊 Withdrawal tracker

Here’s one of Fanatics’ most helpful features. The withdrawal tracker lets you monitor your payout request in real time from the app. You’ll see updates like:

  • Withdrawal Pending
  • Withdrawal Reviewed
  • Withdrawal Completed

This kind of transparency isn’t offered by every sportsbook, and it always gives me peace of mind that my funds are on the way.

🎉 10% FanCash on every bet

You get a 10% FanCash on every real-money bet you make with Fanatics, win or lose. Notably, FanCash is an in-app currency you can use as bonus bets on the sportsbook. Besides that, you can spend it in the Fanatics store to purchase merchandise. If you ask me, the FanCash program is a commendable feature that gives value back to loyal bettors.

🙋 Reliable customer support

Fanatics Sportsbook doesn’t leave you hanging if you have questions or run into issues. The sportsbook’s customer support is available 24/7, and you can reach the agents via live chat or email.

For live chat, open the app, tap the Account icon, and select Chat with Support. You’ll be connected to an agent almost instantly in most cases. Meanwhile, you can send a message to [email protected] for email support. The response time is typically within 24 hours, though it’s often quicker.
