    I fail to see how allegations that one of its on air personalities sexually harrassed interns, or that a woman slept her way to a very high position that is normally given to individuals based on merit, do not qualify as "news."

    Those are definitely some various criticisms there. I'm glad to see that Mr. Daulerio recognizes that. Honestly, as I read these posts yesterday, I enjoyed them and the comments, while at the same time felt guilty because they could not be justified without an corroborating evidence.

    For one afternoon, Deadspin turned into TheDirty.com where seemingly any bullshit rumor attacking an individual gets put up on the internet, truth be damned. Axes got ground in a manner most public.

    While fun, It's probably not in Deadspin's long-term best interest to make this a regular feature. #espnhorndoggery

    But whatever you think constitutes the journalistic "responsibility" of sites like this, it's tough to deny that yesterday's rigamarole pushes DS a lot closer to what guys like Bissinger think it is.

    @MarkKelsosMigraine: I missed the part where I referred to DS the "blog of record." Granted, it's not a newspaper, and doesn't pretend to be. But if DS doesn't aspire to some standard-- even if those goalposts are not fixed, and are in fact more movable than previous journalistic standards by necessity-- then why make any journalistic pretense (see EA-through-the-peephole, etc.) at all? Strictly to avoid legal trouble?

    And if this isn't a sideways nod to speed (the cruelty being incidental) uber alles, well...

    @SavetoFavorites: Gotta agree with you there. I love DS for the "edginess", but yesterday went particularly deep into the muck.

    It sort of takes the teeth out of your criticism of other media outlets when you decide to have a "let's publish shit that might not be true but will definitely fuck some people over" day.

    I'm just glad I don't work at ESPN. I fuck all my bosses. With sloppy work.
