Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn Images Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George has an injury to the extensor tendon on his left pinkie finger, the team announced shortly before Tuesday night's home game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The extent of the injury was detected after George underwent an MRI exam and ultrasound. He was previously ruled out of the game against the Lakers after sustaining the injury during Saturday's 109-97 road victory over the Chicago Bulls.
George is scheduled to be re-evaluated on Wednesday.
"I think it is day-to-day. I think we're happy that we know it's not going to be super long, that it's not major stuff," 76ers coach Nick Nurse told reporters. "I think they're working on trying to figure out how to get him back as fast as they can."
Tuesday's game was the 15th George has missed this season due to a variety of injuries. He is in the first season of a four-year, $212 million deal he signed as a free agent in the offseason.
George, 34, is averaging 17.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 30 games.
Star center Joel Embiid (left knee) also is out against the Lakers and has been ruled out of Wednesday's game against the Sacramento Kings.
The absences will extend Embiid's latest stretch of missed games to 13. The former league MVP has played in just 13 games this season and is averaging 24.4 points and 7.9 rebounds.
Nurse said Embiid participated in some of Monday's practice.
"He was doing some shooting beforehand," Nurse said. "So, I think he's feeling better, getting better. Trying to get him back out there soon, hopefully."
The 76ers are a disappointing 17-27 entering the game against the Lakers.
