A Beer Gut For A Beer City
This image was lost some time after publication. We know it hasn't been the most productive offseason for our beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and we feared they would, in the face of growing public criticism in the face of a new stadium, make a rash deal just to say they're doing something. But jeez: We didn't think they'd start paying guys by the pound.
Last night, the Cardinals signed Sidney Ponson to a one-year deal. In case you don't remember, Ponson had an active time last year: Two DUI arrests, 30 days in an alcohol rehab center and 11 days in an Aruba jail after punching a judge. It's an incentive-laded contract; we would certainly hope so.
Just for the record: The Cardinals brass told him Busch was just the name of the stadium, right? That wasn't one of the incentives, was it?
