A.J. Pierzynski Is Probably Done

The Braves’ A.J. Pierzynski is 39 years old and hitting .219/.243/.304 with little defensive talent to speak of, which is to say that his playing days are numbered. After Saturday night’s game, that number looked like zero:

Tomorrow (ie, today) turned out to bring a trip to the DL with a hamstring injury, effectively ending his season and likely his career—his one-year contract with Atlanta is up at the end of the season, and he’s offered little that would make him a compelling free agent if he wanted to be.
