A Message From Mike Vrabel's Stitched-Up Forehead: Always Wear A Helmet When Head-Butting People Wearing Helmets
Mike Vrabel has been a retired football player for a little more than a year now. After 14 NFL seasons, he couldn't really stay away, transitioning immediately into a role as the linebackers coach at Ohio State, his alma mater, before staying on with Urban Meyer to work as the Buckeyes' defensive line coach. Anything to keep his head in the game.
But, shit, Vrabel needs to chill. During a banquet speech yesterday, Vrabel said he had been so excited before the Michigan game on Nov. 24 that he split his head open by head-butting some of the Buckeyes' players. That prompted his wife, Jen, to tweet a photo of Vrabel's mangled dome. The Buckeyes' blog Eleven Warriors indicated that Vrabel had to get as many as 10 stitches, but Vrabel's wife could not confirm. "He never told me how many stitches," Jen Vrabel would say in a subsequent tweet, "I just know it was to the bone." Um, ouch? "Best not to head-butt a guy with a helmet on when you aren't wearning one!! #einstein," Jen also tweeted. We'll be sure to keep that in mind.
