A Performance Of The Ages
On Saturday, No. 3 Duke beat No. 5 Miami 79-76 in a revenge match for Hurricanes' January throttling—"they even slapp[ed] the floor in an apparent jab at the Blue Devils' tradition"!—and as Coach K. said, it was our privilege.
"We were all privileged to see one of the performances of the ages by Ryan Kelly," Duke coach Mike Krzyewski said. "And me saying spectacular or whatever doesn't even do his performance justice."
Kelly had 36 points in 32 minutes, seven rebounds, a couple assists and a steal and block. It was his first game back from a foot injury that sidelined him since January 8. Pretty good way to come back, with a performance for the ages.
To celebrate, Coach K. took the team out to the movies. He thought they had earned the trip and decided to splurge on tickets to Jack The Giant Slayer 3D. After the film he addressed the team.
"We were all privileged to see one of the performances of the ages by Stanley Tucci," Duke coach Mike Krzyewski said. "And me saying spectacular or whatever doesn't even do his performance justice."
Even before the game, Duke seemed destined for greatness, as Krzyewski had planned a concert trip for the team, to get them in the zone. After the show, Coach K. reportedly addressed the team.
"We were all privileged to see one of the performances of the ages by Kenny G," Duke coach Mike Krzyewski said. "And me saying spectacular or whatever doesn't even do his performance justice."
And, minutes before tipoff, Coach K. brought in a special guest to really drive home the importance of the game while also reminding them of the magic of the moment. Afterwards microphones caught a portion of Krzyewski's comments.
"We were all privileged to see one of the performances of the ages by Shaun Jay," Duke coach Mike Krzyewski said. "And me saying spectacular or whatever doesn't even do his performance justice."
