A Treed Blogger is a Dangerous Blogger (At Least Until the Batteries Run Out)

After we've finished a long day of blogging, we like to pour ourselves a tall Arnold Palmer (with enough whiskey to drown a horse) into a Thermos, pack the latest Uncle John's Bathroom Reader into a knapsack, and scurry up a tree for a relaxing afternoon. There, we find a perfect disconnect from the modern world, allowing us time to explore our inside thoughts instead of having them battered aside by others' needs. (Okay, we pop in Madden '09 and try to figure out how to trade Kyle Orton to Sweden.) Still, we're kicking ourselves today that we didn't think to market tree climbing to overscheduled suburbanites and city-dwellers and charge $475 for two days. First, yes: if it takes you two days to get up the tree, the bear has torn you asunder already. With that out of the way, the bear also doesn't think of it as sport. Peter “Treeman” Jenkins, the Atlanta visionary, has the foresight to sell it as such. You're not just reclaiming the childhood you didn't actually have but wish you did; you're participating in the newest sport! And you know those don't come along just any ol' day. At any rate, if we've been driving you up a tree all weekend, you can find kindred souls at the 25th anniversary celebration of Tree Climbers International next month. If you arrive late and wonder where everyone is, look up; someone will be there to hand you your own Arnold Palmer. Tree climbing business gives man a natural high [Atlanta Journal-Constitution]
