Ah, Duke Girls

We've been enjoying Sports Illustrated On Campus' new section that features college students — including our own Jenn Sterger — writing columns, but, frankly, we're really glad they didn't have this feature when we were in college. We would have assuredly tried to write something for it, and had we been successful, we would have put something together that would surely embarrass us today. And there's enough of that out there already.

Anyway, we extend our sympathies to Melissa Moriarty, a junior at Duke who pretty much guaranteed herself a permanent category on Inside Carolina's message board with her column about what it's like to be a coed at Duke. Yeah, you can probably see where this is going. Some highlights:

• "[People] say [Duke girls are] stuck-up, we think we are better than everyone else, we're ugly and we're all from New Jersey. ... While some of that may be true, I'd like to say that I am a Duke girl, and I am neither ugly nor from New Jersey. No comment on the other slams." • "I'm not saying that we don't have our fair share of women who could stand to spend a little more time in front of the mirror or in the gym. There are days I walk by people on campus and wonder if they seriously think, this is the best I can look." • "It is pretty tough to keep up with your highlights and manicures when you have an Orgo lab, Econ problem sets and a 30-plus page research paper due on a Wednesday. But we manage. There are plenty of women here who truly have it all: the looks, the brains, and the personality. Just consider yourself lucky when you meet one of us... and try not to be too intimidated."

Honestly, the editors at SIOnCampus.com probably found this very amusing, but at a certain level, don't you kind of have to save people from themselves? You're grownups. You should know better.
