AHL Player Suffers On-Ice Seizure After Hit
Wade MacLeod, a 26-year-old winger for the Springfield Falcons, suffered a seizure after the above hit, which was whistled as a boarding penalty on Adirondack Phantoms defenseman Brandon Manning. MacLeod began skating back to his bench when he went down in a heap, and began convulsing on the ice as both teams' medical staffs rushed to his side.
MacLeod was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was reported as being alert and in stable condition. Players and coaches on both teams voted unanimously to postpone the game, which was stopped late in the second period. MacLeod's family released a brief statement last night:
"We would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming show of support for Wade tonight. Wade is alert, in good condition, in positive spirits, and is resting comfortably at Baystate Medical Center. He will remain at the hospital while he undergoes tests. We are deeply appreciative of all the caring and kind words we have received from family, friends, and fans."
Late last night, MacLeod took to Twitter to let everyone know he was OK:
Manning, who delivered the hit, wished MacLeod well:
