American swap: Bruins deal F Charlie Coyle to Avalanche for C Casey Mittelstadt

The Boston Bruins traded veteran forward Charlie Coyle to the Colorado Avalanche to obtain center Casey Mittelstadt in a swap of American players on Friday, according to multiple reports.
Boston also received prospect winger Will Zellers and a conditional second-round draft pick in 2025 in the deal. Colorado also landed a fifth-round pick in 2026.
Coyle, 33, has just 22 points (15 goals, seven assists) in 64 games this season. Last season, he established career bests for goals (25) and points (60).
Coyle began his career with Minnesota during the 2012-13 season and scored 91 goals in 479 games for the Wild. He was traded to the Bruins in February 2019 and had 96 goals in 452 games.
Overall, he has 472 points (187 goals) in 931 NHL games.
Mittlestadt, 26, had 34 points (11 goals, 23 assists) in 63 games for the Avalanche this season.
He first reached the NHL late in the 2017-18 season with the Buffalo Sabres and had 62 goals in 339 games with the club before he was dealt to Colorado at last season's trading deadline.
Mittlestadt played 81 games for the Avalanche, scoring 15 of his 77 career goals.
Zellers, 18, was a third-round pick by Colorado in the 2024 draft. He has 58 points (37 goals, 21 assists) in 40 games for the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League.
