Mandatory Credit: Tommy Gilligan-Imagn Images Andre Mills scored seven of his 21 points in the final 1:45 as Maryland outlasted Washington for a 64-60 Big Ten victory Saturday in College Park, Md.
Solomon Washington put up 11 points and 14 rebounds as the Terrapins (12-16, 4-12) won for the third time in their last five games.
Elijah Saunders hit 4 of 5 shots from beyond the arc, contributing 12 points for Maryland, which made 40.4% from the floor, including 10 of 23 (43.5%) from 3-point range.
Battling inside against the Huskies' pair of 6-foot-11 bookends Hannes Steinbach and Franck Kepnang, Washington led the Terrapins to a 36-23 edge on the boards and a 16-2 advantage on second-chance points.
Zoom Diallo delivered 19 points for Washington (13-14, 5-11), which was attempting to win its second straight Big Ten game for the first time since joining the conference last year.
Steinbach put up 14 points and Wesley Yates III added 12 points for the Huskies, who made 46.2% of their shots from the field and just 5 of 22 (22.7%) from beyond the arc.
Mills was clutch down the stretch as he made a 3-pointer with 1:45 left to put Maryland up 60-58.
After Steinbach answered with a fadeaway shot to tie it, Mills hit two free throws with 57 seconds left to put the Terrapins up for good.
In the final 37 seconds, Washington missed four shots, including one that Maryland's little-used Guillermo Del Pino blocked with 10 seconds left. Del Pino recovered the loose ball and fed it to Mills for a breakaway basket with 4.2 seconds left.
Del Pino, making just his third start this season, hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first half.
In the game's first five minutes, Yates made a pair of 3-pointers, including one which he converted into a four-point play as Washington rolled to an 11-3 lead.
Maryland responded quickly with an 11-2 run, which included a triple from Saunders, for a 14-13 lead.
From that point, it remained close the rest of the way with neither team leading by more than six.
