Andrelton Simmons Creates An Incredibly Satisfying Defensive Highlight
It’d be dramatic to claim that Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons is underappreciated, because his two Gold Gloves and stellar defensive stats seem to indicate that he’s being rightfully recognized, but how many infielders are capable of tricking two runners into an inning-ending rundown?
Credit to ESPN for this excellent camera angle, which allowed the viewer to see what Simmons saw in Sunday’s 7-5 win over the Astros. After Carlos Correa hit a single and Jose Altuve went for third, Simmons got in position for the cutoff; froze Correa between first and second; pulled off a graceful feint; and trapped Altuve to end the inning.
This is a beautiful baseball play and it should be watched at least 10 times. I love it!
