Angels GM Now Mailing Handwritten Replies To Fans Who Send Him Trade Ideas
Jerry Dipoto is the new Angels general manager, and once he brought in Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson, he probably could have taken the rest of the winter off. But no! He's sending lovely thank-you notes to folks who write in with their own GMing advice.
Aaron, who posts at Halos Heaven, suggested Dipoto trade Bobby Abreu and Alberto Callaspo for Orioles prospects Jonathan Schoop and Clayton Schrader. (Without going into it, yes, this is a very weird thing for a blogger to do.) But much to our—and Aaron's—surprise, Dipoto wrote back about three weeks later.
"Aaron,
A quick note to thank you for your recent letter. I enjoyed reading your thoughts and the creative idea you shared. Clearly you have a solid knowledge of the league and potential "players" on the horizon. Unfortunately, trades are always very complex, as you alluded to in your letter. Salaries and finance tend to become an overriding factor.
Know that I do appreciate the suggestion and creativity you've shown.
All my best,
Jerry Dipoto"
Aaron, you fool! By posting the reply on your blog, you've shown all the Angels' cards and tipped off Dan Duquette. (Dan Duquette gets all his baseball news from the SB Nation newsletter.)
