Angels make official deals for RHP Kenley Jansen, INF Yoan Moncada

The Los Angeles Angels officially signed free agent right-hander Kenley Jansen and infielder Yoan Moncada on Saturday.

The Angels' announcement confirmed media reports in recent days that Jansen agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract and that Moncada is signing a one-year, $5 million deal.

In corresponding moves, the Angels placed third baseman Anthony Rendon (left hip impingement) and right-hander Robert Stephenson (right elbow UCL surgery) on the 60-day injured list.

Jansen, 37, is heading into his 16th season in the majors. He converted 27 of 31 save opportunities in 2024 with the Boston Red Sox to go along with a 4-2 record and a 3.29 ERA in 54 2/3 innings.

A four-time All-Star, Jansen's 447 career saves rank fourth in MLB history. Baseball Hall of Fame members Mariano Rivera (652), Trevor Hoffman (601) and Lee Smith (478) are ahead of him.

Jansen, a native of Curacao, is 49-36 with a 2.57 ERA in 871 career relief appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2010-21), Atlanta Braves (2022) and Red Sox (2023-24).

Moncada, 29, played just 12 games for the Chicago White Sox last season due to a left adductor strain. He batted .275 with three doubles, a triple, five walks and 11 strikeouts in 40 at-bats.

He played second base and third base in eight seasons with the White Sox, who declined the club's 2025 option of $25 million in November. He instead got a $500,000 buyout.

Moncada was regarded as a top prospect when he was dealt from the Red Sox to the White Sox in the December 2016 trade that netted Boston left-hander Chris Sale.

A native of Cuba, Moncada is a career .254 hitter with 93 home runs, 339 RBIs, 306 walks and 918 strikeouts in 2,798 at-bats over 747 games. He played in only 208 games the past three seasons because of injuries.
