Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano was placed on the paternity list prior to Wednesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Soriano, 26, can miss up to a maximum of three games while on the list.
The Angels recalled right-hander Chase Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.
Soriano was slated to start a game in the three-game weekend series against the visiting Chicago Cubs prior to the announcement. When he returns to the team will be the prime factor in determining when he pitches next.
Soriano is 8-9 with a 4.00 ERA in 26 starts this season, his third in the majors. He has set career highs for victories, innings pitched (148 2/3) and strikeouts (130).
Silseth, 25, is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in two starts for the Angels this season. He is 5-5 with a 5.06 ERA in 25 appearances (17 starts) in parts of three seasons.
The Angels have lost four of five games entering Wednesday's contest.
