Antoine Griezmann May Be The Last, Biggest Derrick Rose Fan On Earth
credits: Matthias Schrader | source: AP French striker Antoine Griezmann—noted NBA and, specifically, Derrick Rose fan who unfortunately also once painted his entire body black while donning an afro and Harlem Globetrotters uniform—won a World Cup on Sunday. And he played a huge role in the final, delivering the free kick that led to France’s first goal and sinking a penalty for their second. After the game, with a very large beverage in his hand, Griezmann interrupted Paul Pogba’s live interview to say just one thing:
Lest you think Griezmann is somehow being ironic by declaring his love for one of the most tragically washed players in the NBA, his reverence for Rose appears to be real. In a tweet from 2013, Griezmann called Rose his “No. 1 idol.”
He’s also once said that he would only leave Atlético Madrid should he be afforded the opportunity to play with Derrick Rose.
And he was also pretty eager to get a St. Patrick’s Day Derrick Rose Bulls jersey:
He finally got to meet his “No. 1 idol” before a December 2016 game, where he received a No. 7 Griezmann Knicks jersey and got to pose for a photo with Rose.
They say to never befriend your idols. For the sake of his own knees, maybe Griezmann should adhere to that policy.
