Aroldis Chapman Broke MLB's Statcast
Aroldis Chapman throws the baseball very fast. So fast, in fact, that he ruined MLB.com’s Statcast Leaderboard. That’s where MLB shows a glimpse of the data from its player-tracking technology, listing the leaders in a bunch of categories. One is fastest pitch, and the problem was that the 50 fastest pitches this season, from a high of 103.9 MPH to a “low” of 102.4 MPH, were all thrown by Chapman. Yeah, we get it, he throws hard, but who else does? Enter a cutesy solution: the Chapman Filter.
