In a corresponding move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the Athletics placed right-hander Luis Medina on the 60-day injured list as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
Urias, 27, played third base and batted .191 with seven doubles, four home runs and 16 RBIs in 94 at-bats over 41 games in his lone season with the Seattle Mariners in 2024.
A native of Mexico, Urias has split his time between third base, second base and shortstop. He is a career .232 hitter with 52 home runs and 196 RBIs in 486 games for the San Diego Padres (2018-19), Milwaukee Brewers (2020-23), Boston Red Sox (2023) and Mariners.
He hit a career-best 23 homers for the Brewers in 2021 and followed it with 16 the next season.
