Australia's Tim Cahill Just Scored The Goal Of The Tournament
Wow.
Australia are playing the Netherlands today, right now, and after the Dutch shellacked Spain in their first match, literally everyone in the whole, entire world thought they would handle the Socceroos with ease. It looked like that would happen when Dutch striker Arjen Robben opened scoring in the 20th minute. But Australia struck back so quickly that ESPN was still showing slow-motion replays of Australian fans in anguish when Socceroos striker Tim Cahill brought the whole goddamned house down.
Australia kicked off, got the ball wide, then immediately crossed in an early ball over the top of the Dutch defense to Cahill. Sandwiched between two defenders, Cahill took a shot from the top of the 18 on a full volley. The ball exploded off his foot, dipped over the Netherlands keeper, and then careened off the crossbar before bouncing in. Spectacular.
At half, the game is tied, 1-1.
