Excerpts From The Recent Outside Magazine Story That Make Lance Armstrong Look Like An Asshole
Yesterday, the factions of the internet that have strong opinions about Lance Armstrong were aflutter after Outside magazine published an essay penned by Mike Anderson, a one-time member of Lance Armstrong's inner circle. It's a doozy, and we encourage you to read the whole thing. But in the interes...
The NFL's Scab Refs Will Work Week 1
Many are reporting that the scab refs we've all come to know and loathe during the preseason will be calling the shots on opening day. Get ready for more of that up there, some very angry football players, and a lot of attention on the totally stalled negotiations between the NFL and its usual refe...
We Have A New Favorite Tennis Player: Jack Sock
This morning, Harvey Araton of The New York Times introduced the world to a U.S. Open qualifier named Jack Sock. Here's a passage that apparently posed no problem for any copy editors:...
Behind Home Plate At The Little League World Series, An Ump With The Broken-est Finger Ever
"Let's see, my finger bends sideways at the knuckle, so I'll just keep it out of sight and away from kids, who hate that sort of thing. Or, actually—I'll just do the exact opposite."...
A Chick-Fil-A Employee's Silent Protest: The Week In Unintentional Dongs
This week's dong roundup is dedicated to Colin, because he sent us the crescent roll dong and, indeed, proved that he sent us the crescent roll dong through a series of trials so grueling and intricate they bordered on perverse. Also, a person named Isaac claimed the ice tray dong, which I should h...
Want To Increase Donations To Your Charity? Stop Contesting Those Doping Allegations Against You
Why did Lance Armstrong's decision to stop fighting doping allegations—and thereby consent to being stripped of his seven Tour de France titles—drive up donations to his charity so sharply? Armstrong gave up the ghost Thursday; on Friday donations to the Lance Armstrong Foundation rose by a factor o...
Everybody Lost Two Different Horses Won The Travers Stakes
There was an actual tie yesterday at the Travers Stakes. Golden Ticket and Alpha finished in a dead heat, so nobody won. Or they both won? One of the jockeys said after the race, "Neither one of us knew if we won," and, while technically they both "won"—there were two separate first-place trophy pre...
Peter King Mentioned The Same Sports Apparel Company 33 Times In Less Than A Month (And Then Apologized For It)
During NFL training camp season, Sports Illustrated senior writer Peter King has trundled from site to site on a bus provided by EvoShield, a "Game-Changing Protective Apparel" company. If EvoShield did this in the hope that King would mention EvoShield a few times, he more than delivered: In all, b...
A Dong PSA And A Cat To Put You To Shame: The Week In Unintentional Dongs
First off—sorry for the hiatus, we like to dedicate our full attention to the unintentional dong round up, and what with the Olympics, and all the other sports things...you know how it is. Anyway, we're back! Before jumping in, a brief PSA. Sometimes we get e-mails like this:...
Counterpoint: Aw, Screw Ryan Lochte
Yesterday Sean headed off the typical pile-on after an athlete misstep by contextualizing Ryan Lochte as, rather than the preeminent dumb jock of our time, just the latest in a long line of tacky and oblivious athlete-mannequins that have always been around. Not a parable, not a lesson—just another ...
Red Sox Player Mutiny Now Kelly Shoppach's Fault Somehow
The New York Daily News features a screamer of a headline this morning: "Adrian Gonzalez off the hook as NY Mets' Kelly Shoppach takes fall for Boston's text mutiny." Oh, weird! I guess, contrary to the report from Yahoo, it was not "Adrian Gonzalez, texting on behalf of himself and some teammates,"...
Gregg Williams Is Going Backpacking In Northern Thailand
CBS Sports reports that Gregg "Kill The Head" Williams is headed off to "the remote villages of rural Northern Thailand for a backpacking sojourn":...
The Sabanization Of College Football Is A Total Bummer
Yesterday we lauded San Diego State's Rocky Long for potentially eschewing the kick (field goals or punts) in fourth-down situations, a strategic move that's become something of a totem in the advanced football stats discussion. Today, kind of the opposite: it seems college coaches are lining up to ...
San Diego State Head Football Coach Might Just Go For It On Fourth Down This Season
Field goals—fuck 'em, right? They've been called "an anachronistic holdover from the game's rugby origins" in this space before, and finally someone with a little cojones (and a football team) may get rid of them altogether....

Deadspin and Gelf Magazine brought you the best (or at least the most interesting) foreign-produced journalism about the London Olympics. ...
