Good Times And Bad Times For Simmons Duo
Our Boy Bill Simmons gets a lot of gruff from old-school sports journalists for being too much of a "fan" and not enough of a "reporter," or, when he does do deign to do interviews, ends up crawling a little too high up the subject's nether regions. We've never really agreed with the former critic...

Hey, there's a fat guy with white hair taking up office space in the mezzanine who's looking for work. • MNF: Panthers hold off Favre, Packers, sending Green Bay to an 0-4 record, an...
Bear Down, Chicago Bear
Far be it from us to tell starting quarterbacks of first-place NFL teams how to spend their bye week, but we couldn't help but post these pictures — sent to us by a reader — of Bears QB Kyle Orton, at a bar in Iowa City over the long weekend. It was taken on Thursday, hence the Blue Jays-Red Sox g...
Barry Bonds Keeps The Homeland Safe
Well, the regular season is over, which means we have to say goodbye to one of our favorite features: Checking in on Barry Bonds' journal at BarryBonds.com. We love how Barry does "shoutouts" to his corporate sponsors, gives detailed updates on his "rehab" that tend to involve "dropping some weigh...
To Watch Tonight ...
What to watch while fashioning a plastic explosive in the shape of a harmless rabbit ... • MNF: Packers at Panthers. We were ready for some football ... but my God, not this. Not this!. [ABC] • English League Soccer: Bolton at Wigan Athletic. Are you ready for some real football, you great poofters?...

Lawrence Taylor Meets Ron Mexico
We've written about this a couple of times, but now that the game's almost out, we feel obliged to point it out again: The great Ron Mexico — or Mike Mexico — returns in Blitz: The League, essentially the video game version of "Playmakers," the ESPN show in which every player was either a drug add...

If you don't stop scratching, it'll never heal. • NHL's new rules have bettors a little skittish? You should see the goalies. • The Week in Football Betting — ...
Pete Rose, Still Around, Still Clueless, Still Doesn't Care
A confession: We can't stand Pete Rose. Ignoring his loutish tendencies in his personal life or his complete lack of understanding of a human being not named Pete Rose — and that includes Pete Rose Jr. — we just can't fathom how anyone could forgive him baseball's one unforgivable sin. Not only sh...
Jim Leyland, America's Role Model
On the list of Baseball Characters, former manager Jim Leyland has to be pretty high up there. As Leyland travels to Detroit to interview for the just-opened Detroit Tigers job, we'd like to hark back to our personal favorite Jim Leyland moment....
Those Raving, Chattery, Jittery Ballplayers
Remember that famous episode of "Family Ties," when Alex P. Keaton, way behind on his studying for his midterms, has to take speed to stay awake and ends up getting addicted? (Our favorite part is when he paints the hallway at 3:30 in the morning and installs an underground sprinkler system.) We'r...
Blogdom's Best: Chicago Cubs
More than any other sport, baseball lends itself to individual blog obsession. Every Major League Baseball team has several blogs obsessed with chronicling the ins-and-outs of everything. Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding b...
Blogdome: Wrapping Up The Baseball Season
• A frustrating, exhilarating and typical day to be a Philadelphia sports fan. [Philadelphia Will Do] • Cardinals blogs all get together and fret about the postseason. "So, awesome. No pitching, no relief, no health, and our manager's a nutjob." We feel their pain. [Viva El Birdos] • You should all ...
Jesus Christ, All-Pro
Little Billy was a terror on defense — he had been living in the opponents' backfield all day. But then he took it one step too far. Yes, as you may have guessed from this photo, Billy was penalized 15 yards for "roughing Jesus," an infraction that also carries loss of down, plus possible eternal ...
Phil Simms Keeps His Eye On The Balls
One of our favorite ongoing gags at Out Sports is the running tab of homoerotic comments made by CBS analyst Phil Simms during his telecasts. Favorites from the past include "[Miami running back] Lamar Smith doesn't look like much in his underwear" and his constant references to Dan Marino as "a h...
We Have To Ask ...
Suggested questions for today's ESPN SportsNation chatters ... • 10 a.m. The Buzzmaster: Judging from this picture, you are either really fed up with this job or really, really stoned. • Noon. MLB with Steve Phillips: Is it true that when the Mets fired you, they offered to retain your mustache? • 3...
MLB Playoffs: Second Verse, Same As The First
Yesterday was kind of a weird final day of the baseball season; it made us feel sorta dumb for thinking it was such a big deal that we missed most of the early football. The Red Sox "clinched" the wild-card yesterday in the least dramatic way possible, basking in a total choke by the Indians and s...
NFL Roundup: Party Para Mexico
• We're a little slow this morning, because did a shot every time ESPN showed some Mexican "culture" during last night's 31-14 Buzzsaw victory over the 49ers. We know it's unusual to play a game in another country, but the slack-jawed awe of the broadcasters last night — "look, another local! Thes...

There are a bunch of former Enron guys in prison cells cheering like crazy right no...
