Jonas Gray Gets Belichicked
Even though Jonas Gray had the best game of his short career last Sunday, Bill Belichick didn't let it slide when the running back was late to practice today. Gray says he was late because his phone died, so his alarm didn't go off, but Belichick's hardass rules bend for no one. The team held Gray o...
Maple Leafs Fans Finish "Star-Spangled Banner" After Mic Cuts Out
Before the Predators blew out the Maple Leafs Tuesday night, the pregame singer's microphone broke. The Toronto crowd picked up where she left off and finished out "The Star-Spangled Banner" strong. Crowds singing national anthems might rank above instrumental national anthems....
Mike Evans Is Too Big, Too Fast, And Too Physical For Defenses To Stop
You should ignore the two-win Buccaneers and their two-bit alarm-clock uniforms. The Bucs suck, and have been on the end of some of the worst beatdowns of the year. There is at least one bright spot, however: Mike Evans is putting up crazy numbers, and he's only 21....
Guy Fieri Had A Beautiful Mullet 14 Years Ago
No frosted tips, but Guy Fieri looks like a relief pitcher for the Flavortown Donkey-Saucers in this photo from 2000. Makes sense....
David Blatt's Just Trying To Coach Here, Man
LeBron James really wants to do everything, and bless him for trying, but David Blatt's the coach. There are only so many seconds in a timeout....
Jack Johnson's Bankruptcy Filing Claims His Parents Spent All His Money
If you haven't yet read the Columbus Dispatch article on Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson, do so. It's an insane (but not uncommon) story about how a pro athlete, who signed a $30.5 million contract in 2011, ends up filing for bankruptcy....
Principal: "Nothing Racial" About Powderpuff Team Wearing Blackface
A group of students at Sullivan High School (Mo.) wore blackface for their Nov. 5 powderpuff football game. That's bad enough. The quote from school principal Jennifer Schmidt, who described her reaction after seeing the blackface, makes it worse. From the Riverfront Times:...
What Did RG3 Say That Peyton Manning Hasn't?
In terms of RG3 takes, it appears we're not quite out of the woods. The quarterback's comments after Washington's pratfall against Tampa Bay—in which he more or less said football is a team effort—gave everyone the opportunity to take a swing at the already-half-broken piñata. Here's one more bad ta...
Cam Newton's Twitter Got Hacked And Then Suspended
Cam Newton's Twitter account was hacked, which isn't surprising since Cam Newton has a history of struggling with technology. The interesting part was that just when you thought the hack was over, the tweets continued. What a twist....
Phil Martelli's Grandson Is Still An Adorable Mini-Basketball Coach
Most of us discovered Saint Joseph's coach Phil Martelli's grandson Philip in this year's March Madness tournament. The 4-year-old in the stands wore an adult necktie and screamed at no one in particular. (Just like a real coach!) College basketball's back, and so is Philip, still acting like his gr...
Josh Gordon
Josh Gordon's back! Will he immediately pick up where he left off? That'd be nice. He doesn't use an extensive route tree, but he doesn't really need to with his speed. This assumes he's stayed conditioned throughout his suspension. Anyway, it's good to have him back....
Sergio Brown Fires Back At Rob Gronkowski: "I Put Straps On That Boy"
The beef between Rob Gronkowski and Sergio Brown isn't through. Even after Gronkowski ran the Colts safety into a camera cart last night—and took a penalty for it—the tight end kept talking about the guy who broke his arm in 2012....
Police: Drunk Jaguars Player Tried To Use Bubble Gum As Money
Dwayne Gratz had a weird Saturday night. Or maybe Sunday morning. At 5:53 a.m. on Sunday, Miami beach police arrested the Jaguars cornerback and cited him for disorderly intoxication and trespassing after trying to pay for items at a store with bubble gum....
Kevin Hart Advises Jameis Winston: "You Need To Stop Doing Dumb Shit"
The omnipresent matter known as Kevin Hart had a show planned at Florida State over the weekend, so he took the opportunity to visit the Seminoles' locker room. In a now-deleted Instagram that TMZ saved, Hart gives some advice to quarterback Jameis Winston: "You need to stop doing dumb shit." He a...
Gronk Ruins Sergio Brown's Life, Takes Penalty
Rob Gronkowski does not like Sergio Brown, even though the Colts safety used to play for New England. Back in 2012, Brown was the one who caused Gronkowski to break his arm on a point-after attempt. (Gronkowski shouldn't have been in the game that late anyway, but he's not going to be mad at his own...
Man At LSU-Arkansas Game Is Very Angry About Something
This dude in the stands at Saturday's LSU-Arkansas game is furious for some unknown reason. At one point, his dentures slip, but he recovers in time to call someone a "fucking asshole" as he flips the bird....
Deadspin Up All Night: Calm My Nerves
Thank you for your continued support of Deadspin. More football....
Feds Surprise NFL Teams With Postgame Drug Shakedowns
Federal drug agents executed unannounced searches of NFL teams after at least two of Sunday's games. According to the Washington Post, DEA agents targeted team doctors from the traveling Buccaneers and 49ers. Those might not be the only teams investigated, though the law enforcement official who spo...
Marshawn Lynch Might Get A $100K Fine For Ignoring Media
The NFL warned Marshawn Lynch about ignoring media before today, and Lynch left quickly after the loss to the Chiefs. We'll see if the league actually enforces the $100,000 fine....
