Authorities: Sooner Recruit Punched Woman In Face, Then Walked Away
One of Oklahoma's five-star recruits was charged today with one misdemeanor count of acts resulting in gross injury after prosecutors say he knocked a woman unconscious in a Norman restaurant, and then just left.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Amelia Molitor and Joe Mixon were at Pickleman's Gourmet Café on July 25. Molitor told investigators that Mixon used a "homosexual slur" against one of her friends and that lead to an "altercation," which was captured on video. But, as investigators made sure to point out in their charging documents, this wasn't a fair fight.
While in the business, the female victim (5'06'' tall and 130 pounds) pushed Joe Mixon (6'02'' tall and 210 pounds). He then lunged at her in an aggressive manner, leading with his head and with his right fist clinched by his side. The victim reacted by slapping Joe Mixon, with an open right hand, near his left ear. He then struck her on the left side of her face with his closed right fist, knocking her into a table top and then to the ground where she laid motionless. Joe Mixon then left the scene.
Four of the bones in Molitor's face were broken, and prosecutors haven't filed any charges against her. She briefly spoke out afterward, telling The Oklahoman that backlash from OU fans was her biggest fear. Idiots on the Internet, as they tend to do, proved her right.
As for Mixon, Oklahoma began keeping him out of team activities a few days after the fight happened.
