Barcelona Broke Down At Just The Right Times To Let Chelsea Escape With A 1-0 Champions League Win
Chelsea walked away with a 1-0 win in their home leg of the Champions League semifinal with Barcelona today, putting a stumbling block in the road of Barça's attempt to defend their CL title. They did this despite being dominated at nearly every aspect of the game, thanks to Barcelona's failure to execute at key closing moments and one very special counterattack at the end of the first half that led to the match's only score.
How bad was Barcelona at crunch time? We compiled some of the most regretful moments above, though the biggest breakdown came late in stoppage time when they failed to score despite Chelsea practically asking them to equalize. (That isn't to downplay Chelsea pulling itself together defensively and making some terrific plays, of course.) Observers may expect Barça to demolish the Blues on the return trip to Catalonia, but for now the squad needs to pull themselves back together for this weekend's El Clásico bout with a Real Madrid team reeling after its own Champions League letdown.
