In light of the terrorist bombings today targeting the Brussels Airport and a local metro station, the Belgian national team, assembled in the country’s capital ahead of an international friendly against Portugal, has canceled their scheduled training session:

The Portugal match, scheduled to be held in Brussels’s King Baudouin Stadium next Tuesday, is presumably now under review as to whether it will still go on.

A number of Belgian soccer players have expressed their feelings on the tragedy on Twitter:

Norwich City striker and Congo international Dieumerci Mbokani happened to be in the Brussels Airport at the time of the bombings. From the Guardian:

City say the 30-year-old was “unharmed but shaken”. Norwich added that Mbokani had returned home to be with his family, and the club remain in constant dialogue with him.
