Blogdom's Best: Houston Texans
This image was lost some time after publication. It might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NFL and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NFL team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at [email protected]. Today: The Houston Texans.
If cockeyed optimism is your thing, there are two places you can go: to a performance of the musical Annie, or to the Houston Texans official Web site, which includes the NFL playoff schedule. Yeah, we're pretty sure you can free up some bandwidth there, tech guys. The Texans are 1-8, which puts them in the cellar of the AFC South. But cut them some slack; this is a team that is still searching for its identity. They come from a broken home, after all — the Houston Oilers left town in 1997 to become the Tennessee Titans, and the Texans were born as an expansion team in 2002. The team's claim to fame so far? They're 1-0 against the Dallas Cowboys. Actually, that's plenty, if you live in or near Houston. It's going to take some time for the Texans to sink some roots. The Cowboys, for example, have about 12 million blogs — or two for every one of their fans. The Texans, on the other hand, have three.* Here they are. 3. Houston Texans. Hanging in there every week, deconstructing the latest loss. Better times ahead, you guys. 2. Houston Pro Football Lots 'n lots of original features, with an eye on the future. 1. Houston Texans. Bob "The Biz" Childers probably has better things to do every day than write about the Texans, but he choses not to do them, instead keeping the faithful informed and entertained. Not easy when your team is 1-8, so kudos, Bob. (* May be more than three.)
