Blogdom's Best: Kansas City Royals
This image was lost some time after publication. More than any other sport, baseball lends itself to individual blog obsession. Every Major League Baseball team has several blogs obsessed with chronicling the ins-and-outs of everything. Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each team. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours even) for selection, just let us know at [email protected]. Today: The Kansas City Royals.
Last night, Kansas City delayed the inevitable by avoiding losing their 100th game for the second consecutive season. With equal parts Economic Disparity and Gross Mismanagement, the Royals have become the biggest joke in Major League Baseball, and we, for one, think that's a terrible shame. The city's fans have always been loyal, good-hearted and, strangely, really into statistics (Bill James and Rob Neyer are both long-time Royals fans). But they have been stuck with a franchise that's nearly impossible to root for. What more can you say? Baseball will never truly be healed until the Royals can be competitive again. And that seems, still, an extremely long time away.
3. Rob And Rany On The Royals. Yes, they don't update very often, but Rob Neyer and Baseball Prospectus' Rany Jazayerli are two of the smartest — if dorkiest — baseball writers around, and Royals fans are lucky to have them, no matter how sporadically. 2. KC Stat Guy. Sheesh, what's with the stat nerds in KC? Actually, Bradford Doolittle — who writes for the Kansas City Star Royalties and Cardinalate — is an extremely smart fellow whose devotion to the Royals likely outpaces the team's players. 1. Kauffman Confidential. Part of the invaluable All-Baseball network, the site brings that network's usual intelligence on a daily basis to help solve problems for a team that has tons of them. You'd think, with all these great sites, the Royals would have some cheap resources to get better. You'd think.
