Blogdom's Best: Minnesota Twins
This image was lost some time after publication. More than any other sport, baseball lends itself to individual blog obsession. Every Major League Baseball team has several blogs obsessed with chronicling the ins-and-outs of everything. Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each team. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours even) for selection, just let us know at [email protected]. Today: The Minnesota Twins.
At the end of the 1990s, when the Twins were just about to start rebuilding their team into something competitive again, the owners made an offer: Season tickets in the upper deck for $98. Even though we were living in St. Louis at the time — a mere 11 hours away from Minneapolis — that price was so cheap we were tempted. It's still easy to get Twins tickets, but it's not as inexpensive; the team's little streak of playoff appearances will finally end this year, but baseball is certainly relevant in the Twin Cities again. Which works out great, because the Twins — save for maybe the Red Sox — might have the highest number of excellent blogs devoted to them. It's almost impossible just to pick three; we even had to eliminate Hardball Times honcho Aaron Gleeman because he writes about so much other stuff on his site. That's not really fair (and it's kind of changing the rules), but hey, we have to knock down this list somehow.
3. Seth Speaks. As much coverage of the Vikings as the Twins ... and that's saying a lot. 2. Twins Territory. Lengthy, meaty posts with a view on the future while lamenting the present. A recent post had 113 comments; beat that. 1. Bat Girl. One of the baseball Web world's crossover hits, Bat Girl — actually author Anne Ursu — is clever, sweet and very knowledgable. Plus, nobody is funnier with Legos.
